The purpose of this course is to introduce the student with the fundamentals of GIS. The student will be familiarized with common GIS techniques and tools used to store, manage, process, and present geospatial data. The course covers such topics as GIS components, topology, GIS tools (hardware and software), geospatial databases, geospatial database management systems, geospatial data integration and conversion, geospatial data structures, overlay analysis, proximity analysis, network analysis, and buffering.
